The Portland, Oregon band, The Decemberists, have the Indie-Folk industry on lockdown. In 2011, The Decemberists released three of the best albums of the year. Their LP, The King Is Dead, was released January 14th of 2011 and was proclaimed one of the most cohesive albums in the last decade. It was clean, meticulous, flawless and a chart topping collection of songs. By far their best album to date. They followed their LP, with a iTunes Session on July 29th which did nothing to diminish their rising star. The session was a collection of their songs from the past and a few covers in which they displayed their harmonic melodies. On October 28th they released their third album of 2011, Long Live The King. The six songs were cut during The King Is Dead sessions and prove The Decemberists are masters of their art. The EP features the down tempo songs which they did not include in the LP and a Grateful Dead cover "Row Jimmy." Offering their fans and all fans of Indie-Folk the diversity not often found within the genre while staying true to their roots.
According to www.rollingstone.com, "The Decemberist have announced plans to release We All Raise Our Voices to the Air (Live Songs 04.11-08.11), their first full-length concert album, on March 13th.
The set, which will include songs spanning their entire catalog, was recorded at 12 different concerts last year while the band was on tour in support of their most recent studio album, The King Is Dead. Some selections on the live album were recorded at famous venues including the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Stubb's BBQ in Austin, and the McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheater in the band's hometown of Portland, Oregon. The record will be released as 20-track download, 2-disc CD and triple-vinyl set."
At this rate they are releasing more albums than some Indie-Folk bands do their entire career in just one year! The Decemberists are on a roll and taking the Indie-Folk industry with them.
