Dr. Dog may not be considered by most critics as a innovative band because their style reflects great 60's bands like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, and The Band. However, I believe their ability to fuse a classic 60's sound with the modern Indie movement creates a unique sound and genre. Be The Void continues Dr. Dog's tradition of blending the two era's of music with a vibrant, primal, jammy style that emulates a live performance. With all the over produced music flooding the air waves, it's amazing to hear a band stripping themselves down to their essential elements and producing a "basement session" that transcends the most other Indie Pop albums these days. One can only be intrigued to witness Dr. Dog live after listening to Be The Void. The album is complete from start to finish and features something for everyone. Whether you like Jam Bands, Classic Rock or Modern Indie, Be The Void has it all. The only criticism I can find is that some of the tunes are definitely too Poppy for me and sometimes just feel as the bubblegum beatles of the 50's have been reborn.....but thats a personal preference.
