is my friend and neighbor here in lovely San Francisco.
D: So what
are your vital statistics?
S: My name is Sasha Steinhorst and I work for and ride for
Think! Skateboards. I also ride for Independent Trucks and
Plus Two Snowboards.
D: What's
good right now?
S: What's good? Skateboarding is getting really good.
D: You
have been around long enough to see skateboarding go through
some big changes. Would you say it's better now than it ever
was?
S: I wouldn't say it's better than it ever was, it's just
different. Skateboarding is circular, and it's coming back
around to it's roots. The whole "image" thing has played itself
out, so now kids have to let their skating do the talking
for them. I know kids who can do 6 ft. kickflip Indy grabs,
but they don't know how to do a little invert or something.
I'm not clowning 'em, but on the same token...Diversity. That's
my new word right now. Diversity, consistency, and longevity.
D: That's
three words. So you snowboard too, eh?
S: Yes I do. It's only my second season but it's good. Super
good. I've always ridden with super gnarly people like Noah
and Aaron Astorga, so right from the beginning it was either
learn quick, ride fast, or ride by myself, you know?
D:
You work for Think! Skateboards. Do you like it?
S: I love it, it's a really cool job. Everyone who works there
skates except the receptionist. It's a small company that
produces a lot of shit, and we are definitely one of the top
five skateboard companies out there; quality- wise, and team
wise. We've got one of the best well rounded teams in the
industry. Duane Peters dude, old school.
D: Any
political views?
S: I'm a conservative liberal. I'm a liberal conservative.
It's hard to explain. I'm ME. Some issues I'm conservative,
and some issues I'm liberal.
D: So
anyway, where have you been skating lately?
S: Wherever. The new Sacto park, Miley, Santa Rosa a lot lately.
I really don't go to EMB or Hubba Hideout and stuff like that.
We prefer to make our own tracks. Freshies.
