Jon North is my buddy and fellow Lib Tech team rider. Though
I've only known him less than a year I can safely say he is
the definition of "good people." It has been a pleasure
making the acquaintance of this gentleman from El Camino lovin'
Reno, Nevada. Jon is a soft-spoken, ruggedly suave, cuddle-bunny
with a talent for sledding. He pays the bills working a cushy
grunt-guy job at Boreal's rental shop while stroking his employee
status to legitimately procure discount tickets at other Tahoe
area resorts. This arrangement has been of great benefit to
himself and to those who enjoy his company.
Of the handful of times I've come to the Sierra- Tahoe region
I've managed to spend a few days carving powder with Jon at
Homewood and Sugarbowl. He likes to go fast, ride in the trees,
and fly in a forward motion off of most hits. Our boy believes
that `spinning to win' isn't where it's at for his entertainment
value. Jon once told me in a candid moment that anything beyond
a 540 degree aerial maneuver doesn't make much sense to him.
Regardless, he can definitely hold his own in the style department
with big airs and unique lines. His half-cab is truly to be
admired!
Aside from snow stunts, Jon enjoys skateboarding, occasionally
riding a bicycle, crusting at house parties, Black Flag, and
miniature golfing in the summer months. Oh yes, he also rides
for the kind people at Yang Clothing and loves collecting
Local Motion stickers from a tourist trap in downtown Reno's
Clarion Casino. I hope you like Jon more now and feel a meaningful
bond with him. His signature model "Keep On Cruisin'
Bro!" beer stein will soon be available at finer department
stores everywhere.
Thank you, Arlie John Carstens

Nicole:
So Amie tell me a little about your background.
Amie: I've been a happy camper most of my life. Played lots
of sports, traveled a bit, and picked up some crazy sport
called snowboarding about 4 1/2 years ago.
N: How did you get into snowboarding?
A: That "old schooler" Paul Becker took me on my
first snowboarding journey. It was dumping snow at 1000 feet.
So the two hour car ride turned into 9 hours. Once we got
there things went smooth.
N: What does it all mean to you?
A: Just like most subjects, there are many different signifigances
in the industry. I just like to ride with my friends and have
a really neat time.
N: Have you been competeing much? How's it going?
A: I've been competing in the USASA Series. All the girls
are my bro's- and they're hecka good. Meg, Kellie, Laura,
etc. I love them all. I also love the fact that I stand in
2nd place overall; of course that may change by the time this
issue is released. Who knows?
N: In your opinion, are chicks that snowboard judged differently
than the guys?
A: Most men ride better than women, but for womanly abilities,
many kick ass!
N: Who do you ride with?
A: I ride with my bro's- Paul Becker, Chris and Meg, K-dub,
Laura and Chance, and my roommate Kelli Collins.
N: Got any absolute fave spots?
A: Any fresh cliffs or cornice drops are my favorite spots.
N: What's it like being a chick in Truckee?
A: As long as I'm not classified in the 1994 "Miss Truckee
Candidate" for the Ernesto ad in the last issue. Whoooweee!
She's ugly! I'd rather consider myself as a woman living on
Donner Lake! haha!
N: Who are your influences?
A: Influencing riders are all who rip. I learn by watching
all.
N: Got any advice for fellow females that are just getting
started?
A: You have to be aggresive and ride like a man or else you'll
suck.
N: What inspires you?
A: The inspiration is looking forward to powder days.
N: What do you do when you're not on the hill?
A: I go to school. I'm studying for environmental engineering.
I like to wakeboard in the summer, and whatever else is fun.
N: Any travel plans?
A: No, can't afford it!
N: Who's your man?
A: Paul.
N: What kind of music do you like?
A: I like all music that doesn't suck.
N: Closing arguments?
N: Resorts still need to work harder on fun stuff for snowboarders,
like a halfpipe or something.

KELLIE
WRIGHT: MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE
Whenever I mentioned to anyone that I was doing a little ditty
on KellieWright, the first thing out of their mouths was,
"She rules it." A very true statement. Not only
does she have it together on the hill, she has her shit together
off the hill as well. Kellie is a full time student who makes
time to snowboard almost every day of the week. With plans
to have a career in sports medicine, she says that she is
not to worried about having clients. "There are plenty
of little jibber guys out there who love to jump to flat ground."
Kellie wants to make sure that all the people that have helped
her along the way get their due mention. "Props to J.G.
from Burton for hooking me up, Bombshell, getting better and
better every year, The Wave, Mom and Dad and most importantly
Kristian (Jameison)". "I wouldn't be where I am
today if it were not for Kristian."
Kellie stresses a few things that are important in being a
good snowboarder. Iced mocha and bagels no less than twice
a day, Revlon blackberry lipstick and looking like a girl.
Sitting around reminiscing about Mt. Hood, Kellie remembers
beating all the boy Japanese campers at pool for five bucks
a game and making them very upset. She can't wait to get up
to Mt. Hood and be a camp counselor for Windell's Camp. "I
have to protect my campers from the coaches picking up on
them."
"I am glad the tough guy attitudes are gone from snowboarding,
I have definitely lost my tough girl attitude." I am
more sensitive to other peoples needs." Kellie rides
with all the Boreal locs and respects Adrian Olson as "the
shit", but Janna Meyen is the king, "she is the
best snowboarder". All you boys out there that see Kellie
ruling it, lose the attitude and go say, "Hi!" I
promise you that there is a good chance that she won't bite
your head off. Maybe take you for a couple of bucks at pool,
but nothing more.
