A.V.

When I did this interview I was driving down I-5 with A.V,
Salaz, and Card. They were on their way to ride 3-feet of
fresh on the island of New Zealand. They weren't looking forward
to the 16 hour flight over the Pacific, but then they found
out that on International flights, drinks are free. The story
of Aaron Vincent is a different one. The majority of the new
faces on the scene came from either knowing someone who was
filming for someone or entering every contest, camp and demo
around and ruling. Aaron has been ripping for years, it's
just that the guys working the spotlights couldn't locate
the low-key critter `cuz he was in the trees. The majority
of the riders know of A.V, and just recently the media and
industry have been taking note of his potential. After standing
in the shadows for a while, the king of pain busts out.
Noah
Salasnek: You've gotten a lot of nicknames; The Villain,
The Weasel, The King Of Pain. How did it come about that you
ended up with all these titles?
Aaron
Vincent: That's a really stupid question. Next.
Heckler
Magazine: How long have you been skating for?
A.V 9
years
H.M What
companies have you ridden for?
A.V Well,
I started out riding for Marin Surf and Sports, then I rode
for Concrete Jungle.
H.M How
was that riding for the jungle, did they hook you up pretty
good?
A.V Yeah
all right. Hella rad people rode for them; Steve Rodder,
Phil Chin, Jeff Toland, Danny Sargent
H.M Phil
Chin, the guy who just took 3rd in the Back To The City
contest.
N.S Wrong,
wrong, that was Phil Shao.
H.M Okay that's dumb, did you ride for anyone else?
A.V Yeah,
then I rode for H-street and that was rad.
H.M Why's
that?
N.S Mike
Ternansky said Aaron was going to be the next Danny
Way.
H.M Really?
A.V Yeah
he told that to me when I was younger, I didn't know how to
take it.
H.M Wow.
A.V Then
I rode for Life Skateboards, Ron Allen's company, and
they were supposed to give me a model.
H.M What
ever happened with that?
A.V I
got a letter in the mail from Ron Allen. It said, "Sorry
Aaron due to our financial situation we cant send you boards
anymore." Ron Allen, my friend, didn't even call me or nothing.
I don't know it sucked and was kind of funny.
H.M Huh.
A.V Then
I rode for Powell, Todd Hastings. That's done, and now I'm
on my own.
H.M Okay, what snowboard companies have you rode for?
A.V Well
I didn't really ride for anyone, people just hooked me up
with boards.
H.M Like
who?
A.V Neil
Rankin got me on a Joyride, then Laurant gave me
a Burton. I got a contract offer from Nitro. I guess
H-street was the first, and they gave me the most. But then
Noah hooked me up on Sims.
N.S Yeah
H.M How's
that working out?
A.V Killer,
I like it a lot. They gave me a travel budget, salary, boards.
I really like Sims the company, the people are cool, it's
a big company, and they're really flexible.
H.M Oh
shit here comes a cop, you got any warrants or anything?
A.V No,
not really, one time we got busted for stealing wood for a
ramp.
H.M Yeah,
my truck isn't registered.
N.S Burly
H.M Oh
well, he's gone. Have you asked Sims for a model?
A.V Jesus
no, I don't really care about that.
H.M What
do mean, you don't want a model.
A.V Well
at least not right know.
H.M Okay,
what sort of tricks do you like to do?
A.V Going
fast and spinning big. A lot of switch stance stuff. Alaska
was probably one of the best things I've ever done in my life.
And I'm getting ready to go to New Zealand.
H.M All
right, we're almost there. Who would you like to give a shout
out to?
A.V A
shout?
H.M Okay,
that's dumb. You know what I mean.
A.V Ah
Yeah. Lets see Joel at Sessions, Dawger, Gaylene at Sims,
the Hatchett's, oh I don't know there's a lot of people.
H.M Okay,
who do you respect riding?
A.V Hmm,
Salaz, Palm, Roach's,
Ranqy, oh yeah Tom Burt, Dave Hatchett
those guys are the crazies.
H.M We're
here, any last comments?
N.S Yeah
what's up with the snow crow?
A.V No
comment
N.S.Can
you do switch stance 180 kickflips on your skateboard?
A.V.Yep.
N.S.You
Liar! What's up with Theo Hand?
A.V.He's
Shaggy in disguise who thinks he can shoot photos. No, I'm
kiddin, he makes an effort and he's been shootin for Slap.
