Here we
go again! How long have you been snowboarding? Do you have
the same energy that you had when you first started? I can't
believe how many people go boarding for the first time and
fall in love with a sport that allows you to be who you want
and do what you want. THEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN. I have seen
case after case of what I would call "The Conquerors." It
is these lame ass people that are turning our cool-ass sport
into a side show circus act. The Conquerors are the people
that try boarding and get so into it that their lives change
dramatically to accommodate this new found love. They talk,
eat, sleep, and shit, snowboarding for maybe 5 years. (The
extreme cases) So enthusiastic are these kids that they abandon
careers in school or professions to spew more snowboarding.
Most of these people end up doing short stints in the industry
that surrounds their new found love. Some are "pro," others
work as instructors, and some real lucky ones get jobs with
a high falutin' company in the art fag department. So what
you say? So I think that these people put so much into their
first year or two that they don't realize the burn-out factor
involved. WHAT DO THEY EXPECT FROM IT? FAME? MONEY? SEX? DRUGS?
I have friends that enjoy all of these things from snowboarding.
But they got it because they kept their mouths shut, and do
what they wanted. I have other friends who wormed their way
into the scene, and either I or someone else introduced them
to the right people and they got lucky. They enjoy shop ownership
or sponsorship or a high paying job in the industry they kissed
mine or someone else's stinky ass. And now, just a few short
years later, they are burned out on the whole scene. Because
they met Palmer or Brushie or some other famous person in
the sport and they think that they know it all. Now THEY TALK
SHIT ABOUT EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING INVOLVED IN SNOWBOARDING
BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. Assholes! What's next?
I don't know. I'm writing this because it pisses me off to
know that I still love the sport as much as ever, but I'm
getting real sick of the dumb fuckers that whine about nothing
or something, but they don't understand that it has nothing
to do with snowboarding. It has a lot to do with the fact
that if they were into something else, they would put that
down too. Because IF THEY DON'T GET ATTENTION, THEY MAKE A
SCENE. It's one thing to make a scene because that's the way
you are, but it's a different story when you try so hard to
gain attention that you put on a phony act. When the act grows
tiresome, you put it all down and pretend that you hate the
sport. YOU PROBABLY NEVER LIKED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOU
DO IT TO BE SUPER-DISCO! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ON THE HILL,
SO I CAN RUN YOU OVER WHILE YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THAT
STUPID 2 FOOT JUMP YOU CAN'T GET A GOOD PHOTO ON. You make
me sick.... You never deserved to be sponsored anyway
