Brazil:
Punk Rock and Skateboarding
Before going
to Brazil, I was not doing a very good job of enjoying the life
I had. I was stressing out over things that didnt matter,
school, work, etc. It was bad news. This trip and the people
I met on my way reminded me of what is good and what is worth
believing in. read

East
Coast Exposed
Lets
face it: the East Coast has a shitty reputation for snowboarding.
For years, Ive been told how the snow is ice, the pipes
have merciless blue walls, the trees are tight and the hills
are flat. So when it came time to plan Hecklers trips
for this here Travel Issue, why the hell did I pick the East
Coast? Because Im smart, thats why. read

Skating
Through Spain
You
have to understand that in Spain, people move at a slower pace
than in the US, and that includes the skaters. We had been trying
to make it to the skatepark for three or four hours but it just
wasnt happening. In Spain, nobody is in a hurry to do
anything. Spaniards live a laid back lifestyle that is relaxed
and totally different from the hectic pace of the USA. We finally
left the bar with Luis and 15 skaters following him like hes
the Pied Piper of the Madrid skate scene, which isnt too
far from the truth. read

Nashville:
Solo in the South
That this
could never happen in large city is as obvious as the fact that
only in the southern US could there be fast food chain restaurants
that specialize in catfish and barbecue. If you are from the
south, then this must all seem painfully pedestrian to you.
If not, then its probably intriguing. The only point really,
wherever youre from, is to find some small reason to leave
the place that you know so well and discover a new place that
you dont know so well. read

Snowboarding
in Spain
Now, how
long is an escalator ride? 90 seconds? By the middle of the
ride, he had a dyed-blond, leather jacket wearing young Spanish
woman kissing him! Having convinced her that he only spoke broken
Spanish, Raf asked her how to say kiss. Once she
told him the word, Raf asked if she enjoyed kissing. She said
yes, and then Raf asked her to kiss him. She did. The guy gives
new standards to the stereotype of smooth Euros. And when the
escalator was done, Raf said thank you and was already eyeing
the next one. read

Hostelling
in the United States:
The most
important aspect of hostelling is the area around them that
you are opened up to. For the skater and snowboarder, many hostels
are located in places you would already want to be, for example,
the streets of many big cities like San Francisco, Chicago,
New York, Denver, and San Diego. Or mountain towns with neighboring
ski areas like Silverthorne Colorado, Crested Butte, and Flagstaff
Arizona. Not to mention, all the ones scattered up and down
the coasts, usually just a short walk from the beach.

Travel
Guide Books
If youre
on a road trip to someplace youve never been, theres
two ways you can go. One is to just wing it. The best plan is
no plan at all, whatever happens, thats the plan. But
sometimes, if you dont have a lot of time for things to
(maybe) go wrong, it helps to have a plan. read
