Make
a Wish Demo in Houston, Texas
by Bruce Rodela
Have you ever wished for something? Whether it be a date with
a hot girl, landing some new trick, not getting arrested for
molesting a cow or whatever, Im sure youve wished
for something. Maybe that wish came true, maybe it didnt,
but you have more time and wishes ahead of you right? Of course
you do, youre a perfectly healthy young boy or girl and
many more situations will arise for you to flex your wish muscles.
Unfortunately, some people arent so lucky and only have
time for one final wish (dont think about this too long
its actually a pretty sad situation). But fortunately
for some of these kids there is the Make-A-Wish Foundation to
grant a final wish to these terminally ill children. Whether
it be a new video game, going to Disney World or meeting Tony
Hawk, the M-A-W Foundation try their hardest to come through.
What does this have to do with skateboarding? Easy, Damian Hebert
over at South Shore Distribution has taken it upon himself to
raise some cash for this worthy organization by throwing the
best demo of the year. The biggest surprise of all is that the
otherwise back-stabbing, selfish, and egotistical industry of
skateboarding mellowed out a bit and sent their best to help
Damien out (hence the best demo of the year). This is the third
year this wing-ding has been thrown and was definitely the best
one yet. With the help of companies like Santa Cruz, Giant,
Deluxe, Think, World, Supernaut, Kingdom, etc., and skaters
like Caine Gayle, Colt Cannon, Mike V., Chris Gentry, Cairo
Foster and many more it was a huge success. The skate action
was incredible to say the least! My hats off to Damian for taking
time out of his busy life to handle such a big task. Everyone
left with a warm fuzzy feeling at the end of the event (except
those who slammed). So do yourself a favor and buy a plane ticket
next year and skate this event (if your sponsored) or donate
some money and watch the ripping go down, you just might feel
good about yourself!
Also-Much thanks to our hosts David Cain and Chris Struve. With
the exception of almost getting alcohol poisoning, the Texas
hospitality they showed was much appreciated and will not be
forgotten.
