Brasil. The country occupies nearly half the continent of South
America and is the worlds leading coffee exporter. (Mmmmmm,
good.)
The largest city in Brasil is São Paulo. Founded by Jesuit
priests in 1554, Sao Paulo be came a base of penetration for
seeking valuable minerals and Indian slaves. The city has now
become an ultra-modern city with sky scrapers and palatial homes.
Brasil is no longer a mystery, thanks to amazing exports like
Bob Burnquist who came in 1996 and blew peoples minds
at Slam City Jam, making Brasil a hot topic in the skateboarding
world. Multiple tours by major skate companies and large media
coverage have exposed this southern hemisphere gem as a skateboarding
mecca. These photos are from Alexandre Vianna, the editor of
a rad skate mag published in Brasil called 100%. As opposed
to taking a gnarly US team sponsored by a big company, they
are local dudes who rip it up, even with duct taped shoes. Hardcore. The
times I have spent in Brasil has always brought me down to earth.
The line between life and death is blurred and it is hard to
tell the difference sometimes. It is a country full of passion
and pain.
So many good people.
So many things that amaze me. the history of the country is
extraordinary, and reflected in its people.
I miss Brasil. I miss fresh mango juice when ever I want. I
left the U.S. with little knowledge of the country and language.
On my arrival I found my way and was taken care of. Generosity
flowed from all corners. It is easy to fall in love with Brasil.
