Denny
Franchini has
a relentless natural style for floating airs and ripping lip
tricks, and is a ruler in the street as well. He lives a lifestyle
of drinkin beer with his buddies (the Saps they're called
sometimes) and living to skate.
Heckler: What do you think of the way skating is today as
compared to how it was, like five years ago?
Denny Franchini: Skating's a fuckin joke now! It was way better
back then when it was high and fast. Now it's slow and flip.
H: How about Mike Frazier and those guys, all the vert skaters?
DF: They're the fuckin rippers! I'm talkin about all the twelve
year olds that have been skating for a year and a half. They
can't do a frontside grind on a ramp. But they can do 360
flip to frontside grind on a curb.
H: What's your favorite terrain to skate nowadays?
DF: Pools ... and vert ramps. I suck dick on em but I like
to skate on em. (I think he's comparing himself to Frazier)
H: Do you think Reno has a lot of good terrain as compared
to other cities?
DF: It's got a lot of rad terrain, yeah.
H: Cause you moved to San Diego to live for a little while
right?
DF: Yeah, but Joey Pranin and I are gonna move to Portland
now in like a year.
H: You can't beat Burnside.
DF: It's the best place I've ever skated.
H: How long ago did you get into skating?
DF: (Pause) 3rd grade, whenever that was.
H: How old are you now?
DF: Eighteen.
H: Anything else?
DF: Reno has a lot of ripping skaters that no one knows about
... cause they know how to sk8 like a man, not a pussy!
I first met Troy Miller at his infamous recycled mini-ramp
in Loomis about five years ago. He couldn't skate worth a
shit, but after many nights of entertaining guests on his
ramp he started doing what he does best: Blowing Minds.
Troy's
skating is a mixture of new school innovation and old school
speed and aggression. He doesn't skate around all night trying
shit he never makes, he just makes it. He can be found in
the greater Sacto area and occasionally at the Daily Grind.
Besides skating, Troy also likes to get really drunk and punk
out on people; and I heard he's been known to throw down some
serious fashion statements while snowboarding. He's so punk
that he has even been known to spank the monkey on videotape
for a mere $10. So if your pants are way too big and you never
land anything, check Troy out and get a clue.
