Dayne
Brummet
Age: 23
Origin: Chicago, IL
Talented skateboarders are a dime a dozen, they're everywhere.
What sets a guy like Dayne Brummet apart from the pack is
his dedication, heart and go-for-broke attack. For Dayne,
skateboarding is a journey, not a means to an end. He's out
there pushing around looking for trouble everyday trying to
get shit done. He split his home city of Chicago over five
years ago for the year round terrain of San Diego and he has
been laying chunks of skin and sweaty patches over the streets
since. He's bent on becoming a better skater and little else.
In the past few years he has turned up the heat. He is on
the Board of Directors for the newly formed U.P.S.A. (United
Professional Skateboarder's Association) and for some unknown
reason skating with no board sponsor. -Joel Muzzey
Holly Lyons
Age: 26
Origin: Walnut Creek, CA When
you think of raw energy, what do you think of? I think of
Holly Lyons. She is about as hyper as they come. Growing up
in the WC, her mom did well to raise the two Lyons girls.
While her sister was dreaming of having kids, Holly took on
the noble profession of skate betty, hanging in Concord watching
the likes of Wade Speyer and Alan Petersen rip. When someone
told her, Girls just dont skate, she was
inspired to change that stereotype. She and her homie Nikki
Cortez went to SCs Derby and learned how to turn, grind
and pivot. Her heart would forever love skateboarding. Then
in 1991, this duo went to Squaw Valley and Holly had her first
day in the snow; it has been a love/hate relationship ever
since. I couldnt figure it out. Nikki told me
not to use my arms. Mountain Run that day was the longest
run Ive ever taken, says Holly from her Truckee
spot, where she shares a house with Darien Thrope and Nicole
Sesher the Hesher. Holly later became a snowboard instructor
at Boreal (ha ha) and now lives to ride, in Tahoe in the winter,
at Hood in the summer. Her favorite time in life was last
summer when her and Jodi Macdonald went for two weeks on the
east coast leg of that punk rock summer camp known as The
Warped Tour. They were doing vert demos twice a day in between
pulling tubes and pouring sauce. At 5 2, Holly
rides a 156 and says, I feel so much more comfortable.
