[self-proclaimed] Legends
Anonymous Anonymous
is a skateboard shop situated in the heart of the city made famous
by Johnny Fever. This is one of the best shop videos ever. Rather
than a standard skate stunt video, [self-proclaimed] Legends rings
more like a family home movie, a document celebrating unity and
life in their circle. This crew is down for skating and down for
their scene. Dave Caddo is a switch master and can flip on command,
no matter what the terrain. Joe Perazzo rips and Gary Collins is
an unstoppable force. Kokomo Joe, Ned Keller and Doug Korfhagen
all have stand out parts. The soundtrack is diverse and fits the
urban landscape visuals, adding to the mood. Living up to the self-proclaimed
pride of individuality that Cincinnati is known for, each and every
box cover is hand designed. That rules! By the way, the intro montage
was one of skate videos most inspiring. Congrats to Fat Nick and
Dave Herr on a job well done. It just goes to show the talent and
creativity out there. Expose yourself by calling 513-651-3767.
Menikmati DVD
eS On
the flip side to Anonymous hand made local flavor comes the
international uber tech stylings of the eS super team on DVD
format. If you dont have a DVD player yet, get one now. As
you probably already know, this vid features Arto, Creager, Rodrigo
TX., Penny, McCrank, Burnquist, and Koston. If you dont know,
besides ultra progressive skating, this is a peek into the lives
of these playas. The skate footage is out of control, the editing
is top notch and the style is artistic. Whats new here is
that the DVD adds 35 minutes of bonus footage. Thats a whole
nother video fool! Koston Thai boxing, Paul Rodriguez, UK
and Japan tours, and Menikmati 2 are all sweet added features. But
what really got me stoked were Slide Show and Young Penny. Slide
Show is just that, a collection of awesome still photos that basically
document the making of this vid. Young Penny is a long collection
of Tom skating as a youngster. Its so rad. If you already
own Menikmati on VHS, watch this at your friends. If you dont,
get the DVD.
Chomp On This Yeah,
were a little bit late to review this one and youre
probably already hyped out enough, but it is so deserving. Chomp
is super refreshing as skateboarding videos go. In case you didnt
know, this is a collection of skateboardings elite photogs
and filmers (and their homies) in front of the camera. The style
is raw and hardcore and guess what, the skating is sick! Atiba,
Ty Evans, Ako and Morford are bad asses. Sactos Brandon Biebel
never wears a shirt. Koston is disgusting. And Jamie Thomas could
quite possibly be the worlds best skateboarder. This vid is
all about fun and next to Man Down, is a years best and a
must have.
Common Thread
4Reel Productions This
snowboarding video is all right, not shitty, but not insane either.
Shot mostly in Hecklers back yard, Tahoe, it is more often
than not big mountain riding. The skills of Salas, Hetz, Karleen,
and Victoria are undeniable. One of the most stand out parts was
the interview with Tom Burt and his riding footage. He is so true
and has a real passion for snowboarding. Jake Devine shows young
talent. Carlo Mondavi has a sick part. But overall, the vid lacked
personality and originality. The filter effects are a little dated
and the soundtrack is kinda hurting. I am not just baggin
on this piece, much of the footage is awesome and its worth
a viewing. But, Im more excited to see what they produce next
year. See for yourself by calling 530-546-9378.
A Quick Mention
We received a trailer of a documentary on the skateboarding of the
Oakland Hills pools. In brief, the extreme fires of the affluent
hills above Oakland, California left only foundations and empty
pools. They were skated. This trailer looks great and I mention
this because these guys are looking for some help to finish their
project. If you are rich, connected, or both, get a hold of these
dudes and at least check this out. If you are neither of these but
love skateboarding, keep your fingers crossed. Contact Bill Hanley,
