Red Dragons
Within two seconds of running this tape, I not-so-under-my-breath
uttered, Oh shit. Red Dragons started as a crew
from Canada, made famous by rawkus rulers, namely Rob Sluggo
Boyce, Moses Itkonen, and Colin McKay. Today, it is one of Canadas
most successful skate mail order companies, as well as having
two retail stores in Vancouver, BC and Encinitas, CA. And the
crew is bigger than ever. This video demands attention and garners
excitement. It is the first vid in a long time that I wanted
to watch again right when it was over. Ryan Smith destroys handrails
with damn near every variation known on four wheels. His frontside
flip is dripping with style. Dont mess with Moses. Not
only does he skate it all, his security guard part is tough.
Jake Stewart has rad style, pop from hell, and really creative
lines. Sluggos part made me laugh and continue to hit
the rewind button to show everyone I could get in front of the
screen. I want to tell you about it, but I just realized that
its too good, you have to see it for yourself. Its
fucking hilarious. Sluggo is skateboardings most athletic
individual. One of my favorite parts was watching Colin McKay
grow up in about three minutes (think of the Tom Penny part
in the Menikmati DVD). Colins part is great. Caine Gayle,
Jason Ellis, Mike Hastie, Danny Way (the John McEnroe of skateboarding),
the relaxed confidence of Paul Machnau, and a list of 30 other
names make the skateboarding in this movie electrifying. But
its the brotherhood and fun that makes this video moving.
Unfortunately, RDS will now go big and every Limp Bizkit fan
will have the RDS logo tattooed to his leg and start greeting
others with the two-fingered RDS salute. Two fangs out, 10 broken
tails, and a beer bottle upside the head to Jeremy Pettit, Garry
Pendygrasse and all the RDS family for putting together a soon-to-be
classic skateboarding film. This is a benchmark in skateboarding
videos. -SM

What a weird video. The top quote on the back of decently designed
box cover says, Finally, a movie that defines Oregon!
When I read that, I said, I cant wait to see this.
They need to kill that quote. OK, Im not from Oregon,
but Ive been there enough to know that this is not the
definition of that state. However, it is a good effort by a
group of friends and it sure does define them. In giant type
on the front cover, it says, By Collin Wright. As
I watched this vid, I suddenly realized what it was all about.
There is skateboarding and great Oregon parks like Newberg.
Amidst random Rick McCrank and Josh Falk footage comes Collin
Wright with some lines. Then theres some snowboarding,
all on kickers. And here comes Collin Wright with some big spins.
Boom, it segues into some wakeboarding. Who opens the sequence?
You guessed it. Collin Wright. Hey, this guy can ride sideways,
God bless him. There is some rad nighttime Burnside footage,
very unique. There are some good bails. Tim Leonard drinking
the shit cocktail made my stomach turn, but gave me a smile.
When Jackass and extreme sports meet cussing, weed, chicks,
hip hop, booze, and boats, you know youve hooked up with
The O.G.A. crew. And yes, Collin Wright. -The Real OG
