This past week we were invited out to the grand opening of the new Zephyr Lodge and snag a ride on the new Promised Land Express chairlift at Northstar California. Normally 7am shred includes gassing up the sleds and charging pow in the backcountry, but when Vail Resorts invites you to a function, you set the alarm extra early. The grand opening was chalk full of media outlets, industry hitters, and even a dude from the California Senate came out. The new lift is a welcome addition to Northstar, allowing for a ton more tree skiing, as well as a few new runs that look really promising. The new Zephyr Lodge adds over 700 seats to the on-hill dining situation and offers a ton of different food options, as well as some incredible views. After somehow poaching first chair with Northstar COO Bill Rock, Tahoe Snowboard Magazine founder Tawnya Schultz, and one other girl who won a Facebook contest, it was off to shred an incredible amount of terrain thanks to Northstar’s relentless snowmaking. It’s hard to tell that it hasn’t snowed very much this year when you’re out there. They have virtually the entire mountain open. Check out the edit we made from the other day and see for yourself. Thank you Northstar!
