March 4, 2004

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that we at McClellan Sports Management Group
announce the passing of one of our own, professional snowboarder, Josh Malay
on Sunday, February 29, 2004.  Josh was 23. He was on a trip with Transworld
Snowboarding in the Spanish Pyrenees when the unexpected accident occurred.
It was a freak accident.  Josh jumped off a small cliff on the first run of
the day and landed on a rock, which threw him forward into a front flip.  He
struck his head on a small rock and suffered brain damage due to the head
injury.

When my wife Kelly worked for Burton in Denver she used to tell me about
this kid, Josh Malay who rode at Beaver Creek.  She would always tell me how
he was an awesome snowboarder and how much she liked him.  I remember the
first day I met Josh, we were at the Vail pipe and Kelly introduced us.  He
was so stoked to meet me and just hang out and ride.  He told me how he used
to watch all the Kingpin videos with J2, Adam Merriman, Stevie Alters and I
and how we were the ones that made him want to move to Colorado to
snowboard.  I had never really had anyone tell me anything like this before
and I was flattered by Josh saying this to me.

As I watched him ride the pipe I could not believe how impressive he was on
a snowboard.  His enthusiasm on a board reminded me a lot of Stevie, one of
my all-time favorite snowboarders.  He had a natural talent like no other.
We just hiked the pipe and rode all day, I will never forget it.

>From that day on, we were bros.  When I started representing athletes Josh
was the first on my list of rookies to sign up.  I knew in my heart that
Josh was on his way to being one of the big names in snowboarding. He loved
to snowboard, day and night he would be out there filming and shredding
before he ever made a penny from the sport.  He did it for the love, not to
be in the lime light or a hero to anyone, just for himself and his love of
snowboarding.

Josh was not only one of my athletes but one of my great friends.  His
generosity, honesty and amazing personality will always have a place in my
heart.  I know everything happens for a reason and it was just Josh’s time
to go to a better place.  He will always be here with us and I’ll cherish
the memories I have of him until the day I die.

Josh you will be missed by many and forgotten by no one.  R.I.P. little
dougy!  Lysnsi also wants you to know how just how much she loves you.

They had a rail jam last Saturday night at Caesar's Tahoe in the parking lot and the judges scored it like this. I didn't make it, but I am sure everyone got their jib on, got wasted, threw away all the prize money on craps, and ended up passed out in someone else's comped room.

Circa Shoe Company sponsors 3rd Annual Phoenix Am Skateboard Contest at
Desert West Skateboard Plaza!

Phoenix, AZ - April 2 & 4, 2004 - Desert West Skateboard Plaza will hold it's third annual amateur skateboard contest.  The 1st and 2nd Annual Phoenix Am contests were huge successes with over 1200 spectators and contestants from across the world.  This year, Circa Shoe Company and several other skateboard industry sponsors areproviding their support. KR3W Apparel and Cowtown Skateboards are sponsoring a brand new street course at the park! This contest provides a way for the City of Phoenix and the Skateboard Enthusiasts to raise funds for additions to the skate park.  In the past four years, over $52,000 has been raised through entry fees, donations and concessions.  The park is located at 6501 W. Virginia Ave in Phoenix, AZ.  The contest is scheduled from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, and from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday.  To raise additional funds, a $3.00 general admission is charged at the gate and concessions are sold. A free party for all riders and team managers will be
held Saturday night.

One hundred riders will be accepted for the Qualifiers on April 3.  All riders must have a legitimate industry sponsor and the top 35 of these qualifiers will skate in the semi-finals April 4.  Only ten riders will be selected to compete in the finals on Sunday.  First Place is competing for $2000, Second Place $1000, and Third Place $500.  Also on Sunday, the Best Trick contest will commence with Zero Skateboards sponsoring the $2000
prize.

Desert West Skateboard Plaza is skateboard only and it is the only free public park of it's kind in the country.  A dedicated committee of skateboarders and the City of Phoenix collaborated to put this park in the ground.  Local skateboarders raised funds by holding skateboard contests on basketball courts and having concerts at local clubs.  The City of Phoenix matched the funds and the first public skateboard park in Phoenix became a reality.  During the park's early years, skateboarders traveled to Desert
West from all parts of the country, which promptedt he growth of more than 25 parks throughout Arizona.
