This past weekend new and old legends of snowboarding came together for the Sims Retro World Championships, held at Boreal.

“When I rolled up to the hand dug half pipe contest I was a bit late and the legends event had already started. As I began watching I got this crazy feeling like I had traveled back in time. The tricks. The kits. The boards. Everything was different from the snowboarding that I was so used to. It was something truly amazing to observe and experience. I wish it was a week long event. ” Quote from Zander Blackmon pretty much sums it up, the experience is unreal.

The Tom Sims Retro Worlds is the only event of it’s kind. Once a year people of all ages, from all over the world come together to celebrate the shred and impact that Tom Sims had helping create something that we all love. This year was no different. The weather can always present challenges and it certainly did. But the crew at Boreal is ready to handle any challenge and made things come out smooth.

The race was on Saturday, it is incredible to see how fast people can ride those old boards. Speaking of fast Nate Holland beat the next closest racer was 3 seconds behind him. Sunday brought the half pipe contest. This years pipe was built in the fashion of the early 90’s pipes, meaning that there was a little transition that turned into a ditch at the bottom. Timeless Style master Todd Richards took top honors in the legends class, boosting giant methods and putting on a clinic on how to properly do an Andrecht.

The after party and awards were no different, everyone stayed and braved the cold to listen to FORTRESS play on the deck, and melt faces off with pure metal. Keven Jones joined in and sapped the bass.  The PBR was flowing, groups of family and friends gathered to soak in the electric pumping through the air. So many old and new faces.  This was the day. Brave the cold and just enjoy the weekend with friends doing what we all love to do, pure snowboarding.

Big thanks to everyone who came out and Boreal, Sims, Revert Foundation and Pabst Blue Ribbon.
